Induce THIS!

I had my 38 week ob appt yesterday and my Dr started in with the "what day do you want to be induced?" stuff already. I have already told him before that I don't want to be induced at all, but its one ear and out the other with him. I'm sure he has a ton of OB patients and most of them wouldn't object to being induced for convinience. I've been down that road before and didn't care for it.

So, once again, I was very clear that I don't want to be induced this time, unless it is medically necessary. He had no medical reason, but kept pushing it. "Wouldn't you like to have your baby in time to be home for Thanksgiving?" (Why no I don't - I don't give a crap about Thanksgiving! What does that have to do with anything?!?!? I think HE wants to be home for Thanksgiving! He must be the one on-call for the holiday!)

"Well," he finally conceded, "I guess we can wait until next week to decide, but you'll already be 39 weeks and 3 days by then" (so what? Being "overdue" - 40-42 weeks - is still in the normal full-term range...I'm not even due until the 20th!). "We can decide next week. If you've progressed any more by then you'll be ready to be induced, and if not I guess we can wait until after Thanksgiving." (Again with the Thanksgiving? This guy must really, really like turkey!)

I agreed that we can discuss it next week, but this time I am bringing my secret weapon (John) who is much more intimidating than me. I have prepped him on the top 4 reasons why I do NOT want to be induced, in case "Dr Thanksgiving" tries to steamroll me into it again...

#1- I do not want an artificial (ie more difficult/painful) labor

#2- I've been induced 4 TIMES before during 2 pregnancies - it never "takes" the first time, which means that I spend all day having contractions for nothing and then "get" to spend an extra night in the hospital so they can try again in the morning. 6 days of labor for 3 babies- I do not think so.

#3- I do not want to increase my chances of fetal distress resulting in c-section by 33%

#4- I do not want to be forced to lay flat on my back for the entire labor because of the meds.
