Jake the Alligator-Boy

My parents invited us to go to the coast with them today - we all rode in their van to Long Beach (about a three hour drive if you factor in breakfast at a weird diner and several WAY out of the way garage sale stops (when it was Dad's turn to drive).

Oh, Long Beach... the location of our glamorous honeymoon (back in John's college student days). The weather was better this time than it was that December 10 years ago- rainy, but at least no storms this time!

It's called Long Beach because its the longest beach in the world, but it isn't much of a beach. To be fair, though, I've only seen it through rain. We were there about 5 minutes, then made the obligatory stop to see Jake the Alligator-Boy and let K pick up some necessities (a hermit crab and a pressed penny with a whale on it).

John wanted to take pictures of us for W's first trip to the beach but I thought it was silly because half of us didn't even get out of the car (including W and I, since I was changing her diaper!) so I didn't feel like it "counted." Besides, I'm having a Christopher-Walkin-hair-day, anyhow, and we don't need anymore pictures of THAT!

Here is a photo of Kendall with her pants rolled up (nice) after we finished at the beach.

Our trip concluded with a stop at Costco, where I successfully avoided buying one of those fancy chocolate cakes with the chocolate shavings on top...Partly because of will power and partly because I was too cheap to pay $17.00 for a cake when I know I can make the same cake with my copycat recipe for a lot less. But I won't because I'm too tired and I'd have to go to the store. Probably for the best.
